Without a doubt, one of the most important moments in the selection of our master's degrees happens even before registration: preparing the necessary documents!
To apply for a place in both the Master's in Public Administration and the Master's in Economics at IDP, you must prepare a CV and cover letter, which must be attached when filling out the application form.
As they are the first contact between the evaluation panel and the candidate , it is essential to have these documents well written and formatted correctly to move on to the next phase – the interview with our coordinators and teachers.
But, don't worry! We are here to help.
Therefore, we have prepared some tips for you to make a good first impression with your CV and cover letter.

Curriculum
The CV is a document that summarizes your entire professional and academic trajectory and points out where you want to go . In the selection process for master's degrees, the CV is the very first contact that evaluators have before meeting you in person, so this will be the first impression of you conveyed to them.
Pay attention to these details:
1. Header: enter your personal information, such as name, profession and updated contact details.
2. Training: point out your academic experiences in this part, starting with the last course taken and so on. In each topic, remember to include the name of the course, institution and year of completion.
3. Professional experience: also in reverse chronological order, enter the name of the organization in which you work/worked, the position, period of work execution and a brief detail of the activities carried out.
4. Other information: it is also interesting to include other achievements and skills of yours, such as foreign languages you have mastered, publications, awards, certifications, exchanges, among others.
Cover Letter
The purpose of the cover letter is to present a summary, written in a letter format and as a historical and reflective account, of your experiences. It is in this space that you will have the opportunity to detail the main projects and activities developed in the places you have been, the role that each one played in your trajectory and how they influence your decision to study your master's degree now. It’s time to “sell your fish”!
Check out our tips for drafting your cover letter:
1. Select the experiences you want to mention: which were the most important? What marked you the most?
2. Organize a logical sequence to present them : not necessarily a chronological sequence. Who knows, maybe start with the high point of your career and work backwards?
3. Highlight experiences that were not sufficiently valued in the CV: as it is more objective, we know that sometimes important details of topics mentioned in the CV are missing. Take advantage of the letter to detail this!
4. Seek a connection between your professional, academic experiences and the master's degree: why do you want to enroll in the master's degree? What impact do you hope to have? What areas of interest in the master's degree interest you?
5. Do you already have an idea for the research project? It doesn't need to have many details, but already presenting to the panel a path that you intend to follow until defending your dissertation can be a very positive point,
6. Be careful with formatting and spelling: review the text as many times as necessary and, if you prefer, ask someone to check it!
7. Read the master's notice : this way, you can check and complete everything that is required.
