Director of CEDIS participates in the V International Congress on Fundamental Rights and Criminal Procedure in the Digital Era, Data Protection and Criminal Justice
On September 1st at 10 am, professor Laura Schertel (Director of CEDIS) participated
in the International Congress on Fundamental Rights and Criminal Procedure in the Digital Era, an
event promoted by InternetLab with the support of the Faculty of Law at USP.
This year, the congress dealt with the current debates surrounding the protection of personal data
and criminal justice, addressing controversies faced by the judiciary and
legal operators in the face of the development and absorption of new technologies in the prevention,
repression, processing of crimes, and in dynamics of criminal incidence.
Brazilian and
foreign experts in privacy and data protection, academics in the areas of criminal law and criminal procedure,
State agents and representatives of the private sector and civil society participate in the panels.
Parallel to the panels, this year the congress program also included a
film and short film exhibition “Surveillance and Control Stories”, held in
partnership with Finos Filmes.
The event also marked the launch of the fourth volume of the work “Fundamental Rights
and Criminal Procedure in the Digital Era: doctrine and practice in debate”, which brings together articles and
contributions from the IV Congress.
