The Personal Data Protection Treaty was organized by names that played a leadership role during the formative process of the LGPD in Brazil. Designed so that the reader can find up-to-date and solid sources, with theoretical verticality and practical application on the main topics and problems linked to data protection, its articles were written by highly qualified jurists who represent, in addition to academia, all legal careers and specialties.

The reader of the Personal Data Protection Treaty has in their hands a work that provides a comprehensive analysis of the practical developments regarding the application of the LGPD and the interpretation of the entire set of regulations in question. The project coordinators, including professors Laura Scertel and Danilo Doneda (directors of CEDIS), played a continuous leadership role during all phases of the LGPD training process and the maturation of the data protection culture in the country, which gives the book also has a different character in this regard.

The book is divided into three parts. In the first, the historical and theoretical foundations of the development of the discipline related to the protection of personal data are addressed both in Brazil and in foreign systems, as well as its constitutional foundations.

The articles in the second part focus on the LGPD, including contributions on its structure and creation. In this part, the respective chapters and provisions of the law are commented on, such as the principles of legislation, data processing requirements, overview of data processing by Public Authorities and private companies, civil liability, normative dialogues with other laws , exercise of rights by data subjects, impact assessment of data processing, information security, among other topics.

The third part, in turn, contains texts on current, relevant and challenging themes, which, for a systemic and more complete view, could not fail to be integrated into the work. This is the case with the concept of privacy by design, decisions based on algorithms, the connections between data protection and other branches of law – such as competition and labor –, the applications of data protection in scientific research, intellectual property, public security, migration processes, political campaigns, health, among others.

All texts were subjected to a final review and update to take into account the legislative innovations of 2020, in particular Law 14,010/2020 and Decree 10,474, of 2020, ensuring they are extremely current and quality.
