IDP and OEI promote event on Children and prison
On the 28th of February, IDP and OEI will launch the research “Children and Prison: Effects of the Prison System on Early Childhood Development”. The event will be held a round table with IDP researchers who participate in the project and invited to discuss the situation of maternity in jail.
For the Postgraduate Academic Manager, Professor and researcher at IDP, Eduarda Ghindri, the importance of studying the topic lies in its low visibility currently. “The issue of prison and childhood is practically invisible. In the area of Law, there are very few studies on the subject, most of which only deal with the conditions of motherhood in prison. The research we are proposing is unprecedented in the area because the focus is on early childhood development, whether it is a child born with a mother deprived of liberty, or a child whose growth routine is impacted by routine contact with prison.” Explains the Teacher.
In addition to Doctoral Student and Professor Eduarda Ghindri, IDP researchers will participate in the round table: Doctor Professor Carolina Costa Ferreira, Master's Student Professor Cristiane Damasceno, Master Gabriela Gadeia Brito Jardim, Master Professor Juliana Gomes Miranda and Doctor Professor Luciana Silva Garcia and the guests, the General Coordinator of Family Services - National Secretariat for the Promotion of Human Development, Tatiane Vendramini Parra Roda, the National Ombudsman for Penal Services (Depen) and IDP Professor, Maria Gabriela Peixoto, the Public Defender of the Federal District, assigned to the Human Rights nucleus, Francisca Gabrielle Bezerra.
