IDP launches Summer School organized by the University of Oklahoma – USA
Initiative will prioritize master's students and doctoral students
The IDP entered into a partnership with the University of Oklahoma (OU), in the United States, to offer intensive programs aimed at IDP students, with preference for master's and doctorate degrees. The initiative is part of the context of the creation of a study program on Brazil, at OU, and the University's intention to strengthen ties with the academic and professional community in Brazil, as well as the ongoing process of internationalization of postgraduate activities of the IDP.
Participants will have the chance to experience the daily life of an American university and get to know more closely an important part of the country outside the traditional tourist circuit.
For the 2019 edition, two courses will be offered (“Public policies and global issues” and “Democracy today”), totaling 80 hours of activities between face-to-face classes and guided readings. Classes will be in person and will take place in two 3-hour shifts (morning and afternoon), from 07/28 to 08/11/2019.
Classes will be taught in English. Although selection does not require demonstration of proficiency (TOEFL), it is essential that selected students have at least intermediate command of this language to fully benefit from the experience.
Assessment instruments will be defined jointly between OU and IDP, so that they are compatible with the requirements of the latter's programs. As English is not the participants' first language, the tendency is for short texts to be requested, such as critical reviews or opinion articles, from which it is possible for teachers to assess students' understanding of the topics covered. in class. The final work submission date will be 09/11/2019.
If the participant chooses to take only one of the courses, the total amount of fees will remain the same.
Accommodation will take place at the University's own facilities (Sooner Suites). Each dwelling has two bedrooms with a queen bed each, a bathroom, living room, dining room and kitchen. Telephone, internet access, television, digital alarm, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and maid services are also available, as well as parking spaces.
Due to restrictions on the number of spaces available in the Sooner Suites, participants who wish to travel with family members will need to seek accommodation in the Norman hotel chain. It is requested that this situation be communicated to the program coordinators when submitting the application, so that the necessary adjustments can be made to the contract with the accommodation sector at the University.
Coordinating the course in Norman will facilitate participants' access to cultural programs, such as visits to museums and tours around the campus, as well as excursions to Oklahoma City, where students can shop and visit other museums, the zoo, etc. Such programs are not included in the fees.
