IDP OPENS SELECTION PROCESS FOR SECOND CLASS OF MBA IN DATA JOURNALISM
Lato sensu specialization course prepares communication professionals trained to work in data-driven digital journalism
With the characteristic DNA of innovation from IDP (Brazilian Institute of Education, Development and Research), the new MBA in Data Journalism class will train communicators capable of operating digital communication tools that enable the creation of relevant stories, with secure and reliable information. visually pleasing. The course was developed by professionals with experience in the current communications market, with care to offer the student the best in the data-driven journalism market. The course has two certificates, one for Programming in Data Journalism, after approximately half of the course, and another, at the end of the course, for Data Journalist, a certificate recognized by the MEC.
The MBA format allows students to combine their daily professional lives with course activities efficiently. With classes and synchronous practical activities on alternate weekends, the working student can complete the specialization normally, already applying the concepts and techniques learned in the IDP course at work. With a very practical content, students actively participate throughout the course in meetings with teachers and tutors.
IDP's teaching methodology prepares students according to what is really needed in communication agencies. The total course load is 430 hours. An important aspect is that the only prerequisite for enrolling is a higher education diploma. All students receive basic programming content in Python, Mathematics and Statistics, before the start of classes, for a first level that will help in the course sequence. Furthermore, the first classes cover the fundamentals of data journalism, to complement students' leveling before taking the subjects in the curriculum.
"We have brought together in a single robust training several skills that a data journalist needs to develop and can only find in specific training that is disconnected from each other. We go from scratch to practice, going through all the necessary tools for the capture, cleaning, analysis and visualization stages of data in different formats. It's a very complete cycle", explains Bárbara Libório, coordinator of the MBA.
One of the highlights of the course is the teaching staff with broad relevance in the digital communication scenario. All teachers were chosen to offer students contact with professionals working in the market, in the most didactic way possible. In this way, course teachers have one foot in academia and the other in the market. With a project-based teaching methodology and a lot of hands-on work, students are able to get the most out of learning with these teachers.
"We were careful to bring professionals from the market and academia because we believe that, in addition to stimulating practice, we also need to stimulate reflections on it. Data journalism is a new field and precisely for this reason we have a lot to learn from this intersection of experiences", says Bárbara.
IDP has commercial consultants to assist and answer any questions about the selection process or the course.
