The 4th semester student of IDP Law Course Marcelo Sarmento recently stood out in two national level competitions, they are Public Speaking, where he was sacred champion, and the I Championship Proam of the Southeast, where he arrived until the Wednesdays FINALS.

For the student, the IDP helped a lot to prepare for the competitions. “At IDP we have the Argumentation and Oratory Research Group, led by Professor Doctor Olívia Freitas, who guides us on how to construct speeches well. Furthermore, in the classroom we are constantly encouraged to think outside the box and seek more knowledge, which helps a lot. IDP study groups and events are also important to me, with the vast portfolio of knowledge that the Institution provides us with. , I can not only construct good speeches but above all support my arguments to win a debate” explains the student.

Already an “old” acquaintance of competitions, the student says that this type of challenge helps with his academic training. “In addition to the excellent experiences that competitive debates offer me, I have a lot to gain from them as a future legal practitioner, especially in argumentation, logical reasoning, quick thinking to defend theses and acquiring experience to defend sides that I don't always agree with. In addition, I also acquire the ability to sustain orally, the ability to improvise and construct speeches with a connection between strong arguments and all these characteristics that will certainly make me and my fellow debaters at the IDP Debate Society better legal operators” concludes the student.
