IDP students gain prominence at CONPEDI
On June 20 and 21, IDP students, Maria Clara de Albuquerque, Victoria Bittencourt, Isabela Mury, Jessica Magalhães, Monica Coêlho, Gabrielle Corrêa, Luzilane Moura and Priscilla Rezende presented their developed works, under the supervision of their advisors and teachers From IDP Juliana Miranda and Luciana Garcia, at the IDP Human Rights Observatory at the XXVIII Conpedi Meeting of Goiânia.
The duo Mônica Coêlho and Gabrielle Corrêa stood out at the event for their work “Alteration in the Civil Registry of Transsexual and Transvestite People”, under the banner the students were awarded third place.
Gabrielle explains the biggest challenge for the duo. “Seek the position of each registry office on the topic and what was the procedure adopted by the registry offices when it came to changing the civil registration of transgender people”, comments the student.
According to Mônica, the importance of the topic is to try to reduce prejudice against transgender people and transvestites. “The relevance of the topic is precisely to help these people so that they can, through changing their civil registration, have greater job opportunities because this population suffers absurd discrimination, and often needs to become prostitutes. This change would give these people more dignity and better social and working conditions, in addition there would be a break with this distorted view of what it means to be a transsexual or transvestite today in the country”, explains the student.
For Luciana Garcia, PhD Professor and advisor of the duo, research is one of the important factors for students pursuing their degree. “At IDP, research activities during graduation allow for the deepening of knowledge about a given field of Law, articulation with other areas of knowledge, especially Social Sciences and, in the case of applied research, the relationship with the practice of Law”, comments the teacher.
In search of always encouraging its students, IDP conducts research through study groups and financial support programs, such as Papin and Pagrup. The institution believes that offering excellence education goes far beyond the experience in the classroom, it permeates the elaboration of articles, experiences in exchanges and participation in study groups, so the student can explore all their potential. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Conpedi.
