IDP students help create a booklet on transgender rights
The students of the IDP Public Policy and Human Rights Research and Extension Center, Gabrielle Stephane Costa, Isabela Moreira, Jessica Magalhães, Juliana de Menezes, Lucas Sousa, Monica Coêlho, together with teachers Luciana Garcia and Juliana Miranda, collaborated With the project “Eu Existo - Change of the Civil Registry of Transsexuals and Transvestites”, the result of the partnership between the Instituto Princes of Public Policy and Human Rights and the National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals - Antra.
The project consisted of preparing a booklet, where students compiled information and guidelines that seek to raise awareness among transsexuals and transvestites about their rights to change their name, and already provides the basis for a change request, helping the individual to enter this request. at the registry office.
IDP Doctor and Professor Luciana Garcia is one of those responsible for the project and talks about the process carried out to prepare the booklet. “The students participating in this project analyzed the declaratory action of unconstitutionality ADI 4275, in which the STF guaranteed the right to change the civil registration of trans people without the need for medical or psychological reports,” comments the Doctor.
“The students also raised the provisions of the courts of justice, the national justice council, which deal with the matter, and the reporting channels that trans people can access in case of non-compliance with the decision. In addition to having written the text,” concludes the Professor.
According to IDP student Lucas Sousa, who participated in the production of the booklet, this type of project is important to combat society's prejudice against Trans people. “Projects of this type end up opening the eyes of society, showing that transsexuals exist, that they need to be heard and that, above all, it is necessary to ensure that the principles of the Citizen Constitution, which address issues of equality, are effectively fulfilled in the social core,” comments the student.
“I hope that more projects like this will make society open its eyes, removing this “card of prejudice” and this exclusionary view of these individuals, thus starting to realize that these people are like everyone else and that they have their role as contribution within the political, social and philosophical field,” concludes the graduate.
The “I exist” booklet has been available since November 20th and can be consulted on the Antra Facebook page , or can be checked below:
