IDP students visit the STF in a Constitutional Process class
The students of the IDP constitutional proceedings class made a visit to the plenary of the Federal Supreme Court and the Office of the IDP teacher and STF minister, Gilmar Mendes on November 28. The excursion was conducted by the constitutional process teacher José Carvalho and aimed to follow a judgment session of the Supreme Court.
For Professor José Carvalho, this type of experience helps the IDP student to have contact with what is studied in classes. “The visit to the STF is a unique opportunity to provide students with practical experience relating to the theoretical knowledge acquired in the constitutional process discipline, thus deepening legal experience, combining theory and practice”, explains the Professor.
On the tour, the students visited the STF facilities, such as the museum, Noble Hall, White Hall and Plenary, receiving information from a guide on the Court's ceremonial, and followed a trial session, in which the STF Ministers analyzed the constitutionality of the 2017 Christmas presidential pardon.
For the teacher, this type of class helps in the student's training and stimulates their interest in legal practices. “These institutional visits are intended to complement learning and encourage the student’s interest in legal activities”, emphasizes the IDP Professor.
IDP Student Mara Rubia comments that this type of class is important for training in Law. “It is important to have a “preview” of how people behave in environments like this, what the order of things is, considering that I have colleagues who studied at other law universities in Brasília and said they had never had this opportunity that I am taking part in the IDP”, concludes the student.
The IDP always seeks to offer students experiences in the legal field, such as court simulations, debates and visits to the largest courts in Brazil, thus increasing the student's intimacy with the practice of Law, right at the beginning of their degree.
