IDP teachers attend Congress in Granada
The IDP, the Universidad de Granada, La Sapienza Università di Roma, PUC-RS and Unioesc jointly prepare the International Congress “Derechos Fundamentales, Desarrollo and Crisis del Multinable Constitutionalism”. The event will take place at the University of Granada, among the days January 23rd and 26th.
For IDP Professor and Doctor, Marcelo do Val, the themes discussed at the Congress have global relevance. “The importance of the topic refers, above all, to its topicality and relevance to the political and academic-constitutional universe, as it unfolds into common aspects and of extreme concern to scholars and operators of politics and law, whether in Brazil or in Spain, Italy or Portugal. I mention, for example, the right to life and a dignified death, the issue of the processing and protection of personal data and the ungoverned use of the internet aimed at interfering in national elections, and the impact of the crisis on fundamental rights. The latter will be the topic of my presentation as a representative of the Brazil-Europe Legal Comparisons Center, an IDP research group”, comments the Professor.
According to Marcelo, this type of Congress brings great opportunities for debate among the international academic community, providing an environment of great learning and cooperation. “The importance of a congress of this magnitude is the promotion of comparative debate on issues common to the realities of several countries with similar constitutional traditions, with the purpose of disseminating knowledge by verifying the similarities and differences of the same legal, political and/or economic phenomena common, aiming to draw conclusions on how to best solve the problems arising from them. In it, IDP professors will debate side by side with great exponents of European constitutional law and will certainly bring the issues up to date to be topics of debate in the classroom”, concludes the Professor.
Renowned professors in the international academic world will give lectures at the event, such as one of the greatest living constitutionalists and Professor at the University of Granada, Francisco Balaguer, the Minister of the STF and Professor of the IDP, Gilmar Mendes, one of the greatest living jurists and honored by the event, Professor and Doctor Peter Häberle, Professor and Doctor from PUCRS, Ingo Sarlet, and Professors and Doctors from IDP, Marcelo do Val, Ilton Robl Filho and Luciano Bicalho.
