Discover the project “Implementation of LGPD and harmonization with international data protection regimes”
Cenis/IDP and the Center for Information Policy Leadership), on 09/25/2019, began the project “Implementation of LGPD and harmonization with international data protection regimes”. This is an exclusive project that aims to improve the debate on the challenges of implementing the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), including the development of good practices of governance, implementation and regulation of the law. For this, we will hold workshops, webinars and training sessions, and publish technical texts on the subject.
The first workshop brought together leading stakeholders from industry, government, academia and civil society, promoting a broad, dense and pragmatic debate on the implementation of the LGPD and the formation of the future National Personal Data Protection Authority (ANPD). We proposed interpretative models and good practices, and discussed the importance of forming a strong, technical and specialized ANPD, in order to guarantee the success of the new law in Brazil. We also discussed the importance of the compatibility of the LGPD and its regulation with other international mechanisms for the protection of personal data, so that the broad protection for individuals provided by the LGPD is aligned with promoting the country's economic growth.
Thus, it was shown in the event that the partnership between CEDIS/IDP and CIPL provides a mix of global practical experience and cutting-edge legal knowledge and protection to personal data that benefits multiple stakeholders. We will continue the project for the next 14 months and invite interested parties, offices and national companies to participate in the debates. For more information on how to participate, contact CIPL (Giovanna Carloni, Global Privacy Policy Manager - gcarloni@huntonak.com).
