The university, as a place of training and reflection, has a notable role in social change, which is not restricted only to the production of knowledge or the training of professionals, but is also a space for debates about the creation and interpretation of reality. Thus, the university participates in the intention of establishing, questioning, reaffirming or legitimizing the exercise of criminal justice, being encouraged
to think about alternatives to face the intense difficulties of the penitentiary system. In view of this, the Study Group on the Prison System – GESISP, was created in 2015 with the aim of bringing students closer to the prison reality, reflecting on the role of academia, analyzing legal diplomas, understanding the systematics of the different prison models, studying the system crisis and investigate solutions, promote academic production and humanize the study of Law.
