The phrase “In the future, everyone will be famous all over the world for 15 minutes” alone provides proof that Andy Warhol was ahead of his time. The father of Pop Art - an artistic movement focused on North American consumption and lifestyle - made history with his works and way of seeing the world, after all, if you recall an example of work from that period, it will probably be something like Warhol signature.

Life in the 1950s and the rise of capitalism and consumerism in the United States served as inspiration and fuel for Warhol's creations. For the artist “Pop art is nothing more than liking things”, which was reflected in his works that featured everyday objects or famous faces seen every day by the public. 

In a way, Warhol's work made art more accessible, by bringing references from popular imagination and which, according to the artist, united rich and poor. One of the artist's most famous works was born from a tribute after the film star's death. This work is one of the flagships of the artistic movement and brings one of its greatest characteristics: bright colors. Warhol created this work from a promotional photo for the film Niagara, released in 1953. 

Banana

Warhol was closely linked to music and, in 1960, joined the band The Velvet Underground. This partnership, which years later made him the band's manager, resulted in the work as the cover of the first album. The work was handmade and became one of the most expensive pieces at auction, it was sold for 57.2 million dollars. 

Campbell's soup cans

With this piece, Warhol transformed a product, considered mass, into a work of art. The work is the result of a collection of 32 canvases, each painted in homage to the varieties of soups offered by Campbell. The set is currently part of the permanent collection of MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York.
