For fashion lovers, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute , or for those more intimate, the Met Gala, is the hottest and most anticipated event of the year. It was created in 1948 as a way to raise funds for the Costume Institute, which was newly founded at the time. Organized and chaired since 1995 by Anna Wintour, current editor-in-chief of Vogue, the Met Gala aims to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, in the United States, where it is based.

What is the date of the MET gala 2021?

The event usually takes place in May, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was canceled in March 2020 and is scheduled for today , September 13, 2021. The fashion exhibition, which takes place after the event, will be divided into two parts. The first part “ In America: A Lexicon of Fashion ” will take place on September 18th at the Costume Institute’s Anna Wintour Costume Center. And the second part “ America: a fashion anthology” will open in the museum’s American Wing rooms on May 5, 2022.

What is this year's theme?

The theme chosen for this year's ball is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” , which will be dedicated to the modern vocabulary of North American fashion and will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Costume Institute.

The invitations have already been delivered and with that the rumors of pre-confirmed names began. According to the website Page Six, we will have at the Met 2021: Rihanna; Beyoncé; Kim Kardashian; Kylie Jenner; Kendall Jenner; Ariana Grande; Miley Cyrus; Nicki Minaj; Selena Gomez; Addison Rae; Emma Chamberlain; Camila Cabello; Jennifer Lopez; Lupita Nyong and more. However, there is no confirmation that the list is official.

What happens inside?

Everything that happens at the Met Gala after the red carpet is a mystery. Guests are prohibited from taking photos with their own cell phones and posting on social media, a rule that was already broken in 2017. What we know is that after the first-hand exposure, there is the party, dinner and a show.

What to expect from the Met 2021?

This year's Met Gala has everything to be spectacular, at least that's what we expect after more than two years since the last event.
