It is no exaggeration to say that a photograph captures a moment and leaves it for posterity! Proof of this is the existence of images that, even taken many years ago, still remain in our imagination. Or those photos that spread across the internet in a matter of minutes and, sometimes, even become memes.
And since we love photography around here, we’re going to list some images that have gone down in history! Just to further exalt some milestones in the world of the darkroom, because we have no doubt that you have already seen many of them, at least once.
Migrant Mother (1936)
📷 Dorothea Lange
The photo made history when it showed Florence Owens Thompson at the age of 32, devastated because she had no food to give her children. The shot became one of the most famous photos in the United States and an icon of the American Great Depression. After much searching, journalists found the mother and her seven children, in the late 1970s, living in a trailer.
Einstein showing his tongue (1951)
📷Arthur Sasse
You've probably seen this photo somewhere or heard about the physique's iconic pose. The photo was taken on the German's 72nd birthday who, upon hearing photographers and reporters asking for a pose, immediately stuck out his tongue to express that he was not very happy with so many requests.
The Beatles crossing Abbey Road (1969)
📷 Ian Macmillan
Who has never seen a crosswalk and thought about replicating the Beatles' click? And you don't even have to be the biggest fan to have seen the moment captured by Ian Macmillan outside Abbey Road Studios. Rumor has it that the photographer only had 10 minutes to take the photo because John Lennon wanted to get back to the studio straight away. Another legend about the photo is that Paul McCartney would be dead because he was barefoot in the photo.
Afghan Girl (1984)
📷Steve McCurry
Owner of a look that captured the world on the cover of National Geographic magazine, Sharbat Gula, at the age of 12, starred in a report on the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. A fun fact about the photo: Sharbat had no idea of the image's proportion until he met McCurry years after the photo was taken.
Oscar selfie (2014)
📷Bradley Cooper
A moment that went down in the history of the film awards and also of the internet, after all, who could have imagined that Bradley Cooper would pull these people for a selfie in the middle of the Oscar broadcast?! The click that brought together big names like Julia Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres and Meryl Streep was the boost that selfies needed to take over the world and enhance front cameras even more.
