The rise of podcasts in Brazil is already a reality, the term is constantly growing in Google searches, especially in the following cities:
Furthermore, the production of audio programs has also grown, as shown in research by Abpod , which published in the same research an estimate of up to 34.6 million podcast listeners in Brazil.
After all, what is a podcast?
Podcasts are audio programs that can be listened to on streaming services or downloaded for offline listening. They can deal with the most diverse topics, such as: politics, news, entertainment, sports and even astrology.
Podcast streaming platforms have become very popular and many programs can be listened to for free. Spotify was one of the platforms that realized the potential of audio programs and, today, has a special space for podcasts.
The birth of the podcast
The format that has gained listeners around the world emerged in the United States in the early 2000s. The name was born from the combination of iPod (Apple's audio player device) + broadcast (an English word that means transmission).
If today you are familiar with the term Podcast, it is thanks to Adam Curry, former MTV VJ, and Dave Winner, software developer. In 2004 they created a program called iPodder that made it possible to automatically download streams to iPods.
This was the kick that the news needed, as not long after that, in 2005, Apple launched iTunes 4.9, which arrived with its own support for podcasts. And it was in the same year that George W. Bush, then president of the United States, began making his weekly broadcasts available in podcast format.
