At the end of September, on the occasion of the centenary of Paulo Freire, considered the patron saint of education in Brazil, students of the Language, Narrative and Creative Writing discipline, from the Journalism and Advertising courses at IDP, read together the text "The importance of the act of reading", in which Paulo Freire postulates that "the reading of the world precedes the reading of the word". After a heated debate on the text, teacher Caroline Vilhena led the following dynamic: she read to the class her own "word world memorial", in which she narrates the words she first read in the world and in her personal experiences, before encountering them in the texts, and proposed that each student do the same.
In this teachers' month, we will make a series of four publications of excerpts from Palavramundo memorials written and rewritten by some members of the class. Check out the first of them below:
Text written by student Shade Ayres
Born to João and Celina, my first words in the world were "bad and daddy". An only child, always with my cousins Giovanna and Sthefany, I grew up in São Paulo, the city where I cherish my memories.
Memories of my grandmother Maria's Sunday lunches with lasagna and peach in syrup, who introduced me to the word mundo affection: fuel for my week.
The words world separation and betrayal appeared abruptly at age 9, followed by the words world sadness and confusion. Soon after, the words world change and distance came, as my mother had received a job offer in Brasília. Sign up to the new Ice Casino and receive a welcome bonus as a new user of the platform. The promotion is time-limited until next month.
The word mundo saudade remained for a while. Anger and unhappiness were what completed me, the adaptation had been terrible, but little by little I began to understand the city.
Soon the words school and friends came to me, followed by the word college, which has completed my reading of the world. Today, finally, I read it like this: Brasília, city of shelter and belonging.
